Overcoming Outsourcing Challenges Whenever something sounds too good to be true, it's always a good idea to ask: "What's the catch?" Skepticism is normal especially for business owners when faced with the idea of outsourcing. Majority of companies approach anything to do with outsourcing cautiously. Taking into account the sometimes negative view of outsourcing coupled with the idea of entrusting someone else to help you with your company, someone sometimes miles away, then the idea of caution is to be expected. Outsourcing, just like any business, involves risk. By outsourcing, you may be exposed to some risks you otherwise would not have had to worry about if everything was in house. Some examples would be considerations towards security, including security of data. Even in the advent of the internet and telecommunications, it becomes all that much harder to be able to maintain security within a company, much less for companies outside of your own. This drawback highlights the need of an outsourcing provider that can assure you of security at every turn. Approaching BPO companies with an established reputation for security and with certifications on security from prestigious organizations is important. While feedback from other personalities may be well and good, having the credentials to back it up is still the most reliable way of ensuring that you are partnering with a company that considers excellent security a must. Keep in mind as well that different services may require different levels of security. Financial transactions, such as accounting outsourcing may have different requirements as compared to other BPO services. Another hurdle to face is customer expectations. This drawback is most evident in partnerships for call center solutions. One should remember that while an outsourcing provider may be able to provide great service, there will still be dissent among customers who learn of your outsourcing efforts, simply to oppose your choice. Likewise, entering into outsourcing partnerships with the public in the know, may lead to a level of public outcry, especially for companies that have become known as "home grown" companies. Many outsourcing companies have solved this problem by offering confidentiality agreements with their clients to help assuage fears that the partnership would affect public sentiment of their company. An outsourcing company worth its salt will not force or even encourage a potential client to divulge their dealings. A good outsourcing partner would respect the wishes of their clients and would likewise pull out all the stops to ensure that confidentiality is kept. While there are negative sides to outsourcing these points are not without their solutions. It is then that the outsourcing provider must be weighed accordingly in order to determine if and when the benefits of outsourcing will then outweigh the drawbacks. |
